Huí dào jù lóng cháoxué (Return To The Dragon’s Lair)Started by Chen Long at May 27, 2021 12:52 PM
Once again, Chen long finds himself summoned to the Dragon's Lair by the Zhǔ. A man of realities he will respond without question. He is aware of recent developments within both the Asian and American Gangsters, by whatever name they went by. There was a brand new problem arising, a new threat that did not differentiate between men, women, or children.
This trip to the island was under sunny skies, an almost smooth surface, with the occasional dolphin breaching. A pleasant trip to discuss unpleasant subjects, he surmised. Or perhaps the reason he was summoned had nothing to do with whatever he was thinking, or whatever situation was commanding his thoughts. Of course, he dare not discount Lee Chong and his Yellow Tiger operation. They were an ever-present danger to the Red Dragon Tong and anyone else who might happen to be in the way of what Chong wanted. He seemed to be a good match for the new American.
The launch docked easily, unlike the last visit. Chen was hastened to the building, and down below. This alarmed the head of the Lords of Death, but he was relieved when the Zhu stood awaiting his arrival.
"Come in, Chen, come in. I see there is a new problem to be solved. A new threat, but also, a new success!" The Zhu led him past the ornate red Dragon symbol into the great hall where he directed Chen to his right side seat. "Lunch? Have you eaten?"
"No Zhu, I came as soon as I received your call," Chen responded.
"Yes well," He clapped his hands and shouted something over his shoulder, Chen was not paying much attention to orders for the servants. "We will have food shortly, and drink as well. I have called you here on several matters as you must have guessed by my greeting to you." There was a smile.
"As you may know, the arrival of Professor Curtiz and our portion of the artifacts went smoothly by all accounts, however, you may not be aware that Mister Wong paid our agents a visit, according to Li Qiang. His offers were rebuffed as we had hoped, be that as it may, Curtiz and Petroff will be surveilled. This will be precautionary for our security, and for their safety, as we know how Mister Wong operates."
"Indeed Zhu, we are well aware of his time in Shanghai and inland in a number of provinces. Of course, all in the service of Lee Chong, his assumed name." Chen stated in agreement. "But yes I had heard the mission was a success."
Time, of course, will tell in all things.
There, of course, are more problems than Zhu has let on, which affect the Chinese community, but he will explain each as the meeting progresses. There is trouble on a number of fronts that the Red Dragon Tong had not faced previously but will and face them quickly and efficiently as they become better known.
Knowledge of the adversary makes subduing them much easier, and much faster. Zhu looks upon several opponents only one of which was Chinese. Zhu was of the hair of letting the anglos kill one another so long as his interests were not bothered, but it would seem that was becoming an unavoidable impossibility.
"But yes I had heard the mission was a success."
"I have left out one very important part about our mission." Zhu began, "The Yellow Tigers are responsible for the deaths of eight of our men in San Francisco. They were attacked and brutally murdered somewhere near the warehouse area. It is believed that another shipment which was arriving from Hong Kong was in fact the shipment which was received by our men and transported safely. How Mister Wong came aboard our train is somewhat of a mystery. Other than he knows so little of our operation, and our relationship with the professor. He seemingly believed that what was on the train was for the school. I am not sure that guise will work again."
"A risk, perhaps." Chen offered. "And, one worth taking I believe. Realistically, what would Wong know about anything he's not told by Lee Chong? He is quite dangerous, of that I am convinced, he is a threat to be taken seriously, however, at this stage, I doubt he is aware of the role the professor and his friend play in the scheme of things. Now, however, he has drawn the attention of you, and in turn, myself meaning the Lords of Death. There will be sufficient reprisals."
"Yes, yes, I understand and fully expected that reply. Without the dealings of the Yellow Tiger syndicate, the anglos will be of a lesser threat. You understand we cannot, in good conscience, fail to act. It would be a sign of weakness Lee Chong would exploit. We cannot have that under any circumstance."
"You may rely on me Excellency. You may rely on the Lords, we will not fail." Chen declared. I ask but one small favor of you Excellency, I wish to recall Li Jie (hero) from his retirement, as he is still in Miami. Li Jie would be a great asset, is known and feared. Provided when I meet with him, he is willing."
The Zhu studied Chen Long as he thought over what was asked. A man retired was a man that has earned the peace and quiet of life and for most, a return to mother China where they would live out their days in comfort. He knew that Chen would not ask for anything unless he felt he had good reason to make the request. The reasoning was obvious, not a Chinese living was unaware of Li Jie.
"Only, if he is willing." The Zhu respond. "You will stay for the evening meal."
"Of course, Excellency, only if Li Jie is willing. And yes I would be honored to remain for the evening meal.' Chen responded. He then changed the subject.
"Perhaps, Zhu, the minions of the Yellow Tiger will see that the truck goes directly from the train station to the University and is unloaded there, as we had planned. They would not see that our men inside had removed our property en route, and remained concealed in the truck when it was returned to the school's motor pool for well over an hour." He smiled. "I say this because, in fact, three Chinese were observed watching the unloading as we had anticipated. Obviously counting the crates as they came off of the truck and vanished with the information."
"Then you would be correct, the ruse had succeeded, even better than we had planned." The Ahu responded with a smile of satisfaction, "and that would mean this alliance with the professor is working. Yet I wonder, for how long? Being a pragmatist, Chen, I wonder how many times this trickery will work. Lee Chong is not easily duped."
"I would agree, no he is not, yet, Lee Chong is not present when this is arranged, nor when it is carried out. We have several methods available to us, what was done in San Francisco was just one method." Chen explained in response. "We can dupe him for some time with these alternate ploys. And, I am confident that we will. Does he have assets as we do, or must they be transported to where they are needed?
"Presently, they must be transported as Lee Chong is not well received, especially on the West Coast of this country. It seems that sometime back he was implicated in the murder of a well-respected man, and his family of the Chinese community there, so he would be risking his life and the pain of a thousand deaths to show his face there."
Chen Long smiled.
Time, of course, will tell in all things.
The smile seen from Chen Long was one of immense satisfaction, knowing that Lee Chong operated at a distinct disadvantage on the west coast, and, also knowing that his persona non-grata in California was advancing across the continent to all the other Chinese communities, and obviously in Florida, as well.
What he could not foresee was that he was to meet the fabled daughter of the Zhu. A woman unknown to any in his vast empire, except for a very few. Oh, please do not mistake me, the woman was known to exist, but had never been seen, as such. Her name, NuYing, meaning 'female flower.' It has been said, she is anything but. Beautiful? Supposedly, unless you have seen her, to confirm that as fact. As I have said, few have, I, his humble emissary, have been privileged to have seen her several times. But I digress.
A most capable man, Chen Long. A man devoted to the Zhu and what the community is building. He will certainly have a plan.
He was called to dinner promptly at five. Chen Long followed his female escort to the dining room where he was seated to what would be the Zhu's left, another place setting was on his right where he had sat before, so there was another of high importance at this affair.
Simply being at the table was honor enough for Chen, actually a place he thought he would never be welcomed. Yet, as in all things, large and small, there is change. It is the only constant in the universe. He, of course, wondered who might be joining them for the evening meal. He had seen no one else, not that he's not seeing anyone was unusual. The complex was quite large, in fact, it was said to house Zhu's private army. Of that, he had no doubt.
There were chimes being rung or played, and with them, a door in the wall opened. One which he had not seen before, and through this opening entered the Zhu with a beautiful young Chinese woman on his hand. By her regalia it was clear that this was his daughter and then as he looked, it became clear to him, the woman was none other than Lita Zu. How different she looked.
They paraded to the table and without conversing took their seats, first, the Zhu seated his daughter, and then he took his seat. At that moment a gong sounded, the evening meal was delivered by the kitchen help.
"You know my daughter, Chen Long?"
"I do, Excellency. However, I did not know...'
"No, you did not, and you will, of course, tell no one who she is, other than Lita Zu." The Zhu stated, making his point the first time. Not that Chen would ever divulge anything entrusted to him by the Zhu."May I present my daughter, NuYing.
"I am pleased to see you, Chen Long. May I add my welcome." She offered. To which Chen bowed his head in acceptance. "We have some things to go over, some unpleasantries we would ask you to perform."
"Of course," Chen responded as the plates were filled with food, goblets with wine.
A new faction has emerged of which we do not approve. In their arrogance, they call themselves "The Organization," and, unfortunately, we know very little about them, other than they kidnapped a young woman we had hoped might be of use to us, a Betty Wu, who also goes by the name of Judy Wong. She is employed on the docks as a cocktail waitress." She paused, "Also, a cop was taken an Irishman, a Brendon Muldoon. We would like to recover the girl, though the policeman may be of some help. But most importantly, we would like to know quite a bit more about "The Organization."
"The docks are not the easiest of areas to deploy men in the task of gathering information. Perhaps, though, we have such a person in our employ who may very well be up to the task. In fact, I believe that he would be perfect in such a role for us. Please, I have some possible options of which I will investigate immediately upon my return to the mainland." Chen replied, smiling inside.
"Of course. I have full confidence in you and your abilities, which brings me to a most unpleasant circumstance." She paused, "A new Měiguó bāngpài (American gang) has taken shape. The owner of the jewelry store next to the Metropolitan Bank, the Beach City Jewelers, was murdered by these Húndàn, he was Fu Cho with a wife and two children. Again, see what you can learn of these Tā mā de húndàn!"(fucking Assholes) Her anger was well evident, Hen, paused in mid-bite to nod, lowering his fork before speaking.
"When I have learned their names, we will begin retribution of the most excruciating nature, be assured, this will not go unpunished." He promised, then took his bite, washing it down with a sip of wine. There would be blood!
"It is why I have come to count on you Chen Long, you get things taken care of which need doing." NuYing/Lita Zu said. Chen long bowed his head to her as a sign of thanks and respect. As suddenly as the conversation had been all business, it changed to pleasantries and the mundane. Though as always, there was a point to the conversations they were having.
The dinner past and before they rose from the table The Zhu asked, "Would you care to spend the night or take the launch back to the mainland? Both are certainly available to you."
"The offer to stay is most tempting, Zhu, however, I will take the launch back, there are things to be set in motion, things to be done," Chen stated, as plans were already forming, contacts needed to be made, time was wasting on the captives.
"I understand. I will have the launch made ready, though it should be standing by. It has been a pleasure to have you, Chen, consider yourself as always welcome on the island." The Zhu offered. "Until we see you again." Both men bowed, Chen bowing to Lita, as he knew her.
Good evening." He said simply and turned to leave. He was anxious to get started.
End of thread.
