Arnold Muffling "Muff" Miller was born and raised in the little town of Carl, Georgia, where he showed not only an early aptitude for electrical engineering, building his own crystal radio set at the age of 12, but a genius for music. His parents, however, favored the former profession as the most respectable and paid for him to study electronics through a correspondence course, and when that was no longer advanced enough, to travel down to Florida and attend college.
Never rich, Muff had to supplement his income by playing music; anything from tinkling out dramatic music on out of tune pianos and wheezy harmoniums in talking picture theaters, to rattling out dixieland jazz in speakeasies and private parties. Eventually the music took over from the engineering and he dropped out of College to become a de facto professional musician in the Miami Beach area.
Whereas he can double on piano or cornet, the trombone is his main axe, and as well as a lot of work as a sideman, has led various pick up bands and combinations.
