Born Frederico Gagliano to poor immigrant Italian parents, he escaped the poverty of his Jersey City early years by joining a local criminal gang. He was a thug at first but he was smarter than most of them. He rose in power by his brains more than his brawn though he was certainly capable and willing to use violence to get what he wanted.
One Prohibition was on, the gangs of course wanted to up their profits and this often meant expanding the market. His boss at the time decided to expand south and heard about Miami as a haven for bootlegging, moonshine, and smuggling. Now second in command, he was given the task of establishing their influence in that market.
He hit Miami like a ton of bricks and soon dominated the Italian criminal elements thru a combination of charm, smart business decisions, and when needed, brutal violence. He has been since trying to corner the market throughout Miami, not without resistance. Recently his New Jersey boss was killed and Freddy decided he did not want to go back thus cutting his ties completely up north. He had made up his mind, Miami was his home now and his turf. The weather was great, the fishing wonderful, his wife and kids liked it there and he had bought an almost palacial home, life was good.
Freddie deliberately tries to come across as just one of the guys, big smile on that fat face of his and greeting everyone like long lost friends. His laugh is booming and infectious. He likes his business meetings to be held either in restaurants or at his place where the food is plentiful and exceptionally good, well if you like Italian. He encourages his friends and associates to call him 'Gags'.
He always presents his business offers in this friendly jovial even mood. He doesn't mind engaging in back and forth ironing out the details. He has a reputation of living up to his part of the bargains made. So people have found they can do business with Freddy.
But some, to their misfortune, have found out what you dare not do is defy him or, God forbid, double cross him. That's when the other side of the man comes out. You will pay alright. He is a very violent man. Threats, beatings, torture, and of course the ultimate, murder is all part of his business and he prides himself on being a very very good businessman.
